Woodworking Stories

From Dave Macsey:

This is a story that happened after our April Guild meeting.

I had called one of my guests Bob Bremke to remind him of the meeting.  Well, he didn’t have a car that evening so I went and picked him up.  After the meeting and a cup of coffee with Alan Hay my other guest, Bob and I were driving down Winter Park Drive off Rt 436. About 1000 ft later we saw a large pile of stuff alongside the road and as we passed it I noticed that it was in front of the small Jewish Synagogue that somehow got approved in that residential area.  Some of the stuff appeared to be wooden items.  Well, I said to Bob that usually the quality of wood used in houses of prayer was top notch.  He agreed and we came to the same conclusion that maybe we should check this out further.  We turned around and investigated.  The wood was from inside the worshipping area and of good quality so we proceeded to salvage in the darkness what we could without use of any tools.

After arriving home both of us found that our hands were black.  I found out the next day that the temple had had a fire in their kitchen area and that it was soot that caused our hands to be black.

Several days later I called Bob to tell him that I had been contacted by the police to see if I knew anything about the missing wood.  Well, of course I was only ribbing him.  But we both knew that we were WOODIES as we both got enjoyment on getting free wood the way we did!
